DAAD is the most influential German support agency, in the field of international academic cooperation. It provides a number of graduate and research scholarships to enable students from Germany and abroad to study.

Acceptable courses or subjects: The award is given for a postgraduate or continuing study course in the music sector
Admissible Conditions: The applicants must meet all the following criteria to be eligible:
International applicants who have received their first music university degree no later than the time they start their scholarship-supported study program; if that is not feasible, they should at least have exhausted all the training opportunities applicable to their instrument in their country of origin.

Applicants who have lived in Germany for more than 15 months can not be accepted at the application deadline.
Applicants in the music field should have knowledge of the language of instruction that corresponds to the criteria of the university chosen no later than the time they start their scholarship.
Candidates can complete a Master’s / Postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification in this study program, or a complementary course leading to no final qualification (not an undergraduate)



How to apply:

Application is done online via the DAAD portal. Note: The portal will open about 6 weeks before the deadline for applications
Supporting Documents: Applicants must send the following documents by mail to the specified application address (some documents must be submitted with the application online):

Upload Documents: Curriculum vitae, letter of inspiration, certificate of degree, evidence of understanding of the language of instruction (German or English), an outline of the recorded pieces: www.daad.de/extrainfo, and letter of acceptance from the host university (if available).

Post Documents: Send work samples together with the printed “Cover sheet for application” of the online produced “Application description” and the reference.

Admission Requirements: Applicants should have taken their final exams no more than six years before the deadline for submission.
Language requirement: Applicants must have experience in both English and German.



DAAD will provide all the following:

  • Monthly payment of 850 euros
  • Travel allowance
  • One-off study allowance
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:
  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying members of the family
